WSRO Goa 2024 Concludes Successfully, Showcasing Regional STEM Excellence

Event Highlights:

The WSRO Goa 2024 event was not just a competition but a celebration of creativity, commitment, curiosity, and a passion for learning. The overwhelming participation from schools, computer teachers, and parents played a significant role in making this event successful. As part of the event preparation, two physical handholding sessions were conducted across North and South Goa for registered participants, along with five online sessions to guide participants on event rules, expectations for the Young Scientists and Entrepreneurship Challenge, and coding of the line-follower robots.

Apart from this, a pledge was handed over to the Director of Sports (Goa) Shri Arvind Khutkar and the Director of Education (Goa) Shri Shailesh Jingade as a request to recognise robotics as a sport officially. This was done during the prize distribution programme of the World STEM & Robotics Olympiad held in Goa. Presently robotics competitions are expensive for parents as they have to purchase robotics kits and pay for registration fees. By declaring robotics as a sport, it will help make it part of the existing sports infrastructure and calendar thus elevating STEM education and empowering young innovators in Goa!

Support and Coordination:

The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Goa contributed to making this a successful event by being the venue partner. The Directorate of Education Goa also helped spread awareness of the event across schools in Goa by issuing a circular for all schools on June 19, 2024.

Mrs Maya Kamat, a computer teacher from The Progress High School, Panaji, helped coordinate, guide, and address queries from teachers and mentors of various participating teams. Dhruv Patel from WSRO judged the Young Scientists and Entrepreneurship Challenge. Devendra Parmar from WSRO judged the Jr. Robo Race. The Line Follower competition was judged by Mr. Vincent Toscano, who also provided live commentary. The Lego Line Following event was judged by Mr Deepak Mandrekar (Girls in Robotics, USA) and Er. Prasad Rangnekar.

All the winners, including Judges Choice Awardees, will now participate in the WSRO National event at Science City, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) in September. Their remarkable performances at the regional level have set high expectations for the nationals. For more information and updates, please visit WSRO.\
